Struggling to Connect With a Career You Love?
The technology industry is constantly evolving, and competition for jobs can feel intense. Finding the right job is challenging, and when you do find one you’re interested in, you may have trouble getting your foot in the door.
Your Job Search, Made Simpler.
Effective job search strategies can help you stand out from the crowd and increase your chances of securing the IT role you’ve been dreaming of.
At ACDS, we’ve included tips for resume writing, training resources, and networking opportunities to help you effectively communicate your skills and start achieving your goals.
Writing the Right Resume.
You have 10 seconds to capture the recruiter or hiring manager’s attention, so you want to make sure you’re doing all the right things on your resume, including:
- Update your summary to be IT-specific.
- Tailor your resume for each job you apply to.
- Limit your resume to 1-2 pages.
- If you graduated 10+ years ago, leave off your graduation date.
- Use a simple, classic black-and-white format. No graphics. No pictures. (One accent color can be used.)
- Choose your font wisely (no typewriter fonts).
- Read the job description carefully and include keywords (some hiring systems use automated keyword searches to determine if you have specific skills). Use tools like jobscan.co or resymatch.io to compare your resume with the job description.
- Add your relevant projects and GitHub profile (most important for developers).
- Refer back to your previous 8-10 years of relevant work experience. More than ten years isn't necessary unless your only relevant experience was from then. If you don't have 8-10 years of experience, don't worry. Show what you have.Â
